Happy Canadian Thanksgiving !

For this special day I give you Angus Chisholm:

Angus Chisholm was born in Margaree Forks, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia in 1908. He died in the United States in 1979 and was laid to rest in his native Margaree. His early recordings have now been released on tape.
The tunes are Glengarry’s Dirk/Bonnie Lass of Fisherow/The Bird’s Nest

  1. Another great fiddler from Margaree Forks was Cameron Chisholm – probably a relation of Angus I would think, though I don’t know for sure.

I visited Cameron at his home in Margaree during the early 1990s, when I was a student. We played old Scottish fiddle tunes together in his kitchen. Although he was a local celebrity and former stalwart of the square dances in South West Cape Breton, I was told he was a virtual recluse who never played in public, and that I was fortunate to have been able to join him for a tune. It was a great evening.

You can see some 1977 footage of Cameron Chisholm (with the moustache) in his heyday here:
