Grace O’Malley (Gráinne Mhao) was a female Irish pirate who still enchants our imaginations. Frankly I didn’t know her until the book Island of the White Cow fell on my hands. It recounts the experience of an American poet from the Midwest who settled in an unmodernized island off the west coast of Ireland. The Pirate queen was given a huge reference in that book .
In her old age O’Malley was given pardon. She met Elizabeth I at Kentwell and as history puts it, they conversed in Latin-their only common language. They apparently built a rapport which was inevitable; being two strong women with great minds. I will let this video do the talking.
OMG! I just got a book at the library yesterday about her. Except they have it as a historical novel so i didn’t think she was real. The book is called The Pirate Queen by Alan Gold. I’ll let you know if it’s worth a looky see.

Sure. I am not familiar with that book but it sounds like it is based on her life. After all she’s the only pirate queen in history. Much much real than Jack Sparrow.

I started the book last night and I have decided I want to be her! LOL I love her attitude and how she can take care of herself. I’m only 50 pages into the book and I adore her.

Indeed she’s really ahead of her time. She’s didn’t even bow down to Queen Elizabeth I because she felt they’re equals. And with all th battles she fought her self i think she’s indeed a queen in her own right.
