I’ve just finished watching the new music video by the ‘other sister’ of The Corrs, Sharon Corr. It’s called We Could Be Lovers. I got insomnia and instead of being useless, I decided to open my laptop and see what the rave is all about. I admit I was thinking this post should go to my other blog because the song is more pop than Celtic. But The Corrs have always been pop even though they introduced Traditional Irish music in their subsequent albums. I was expecting to see her playing the fiddle in this video but I know that she doesn’t need to prove that. What she is trying to prove is that she can actually sing. And she has a beautiful voice!
The video features Corr in a sultry image trying to seduce a ‘tamed’ Irish guy. The lyrics show that longing for the possibility to be in a relationship with someone who seems to be preoccupied with his goals in life and has little time for intimacy. But in the end of the video, our beautiful Irish chanteuse proves that she wins. The track has that bouncy folk style that is acoustic guitar driven.
Of all the sisters, I find Sharon Corr to be the most attractive and sweet. It is great to see her touring and promoting the new album “The Same Sun.” American fans will get to see her perform at the Aladdin theater on February 23, courtesy of 67 Music.
Part dreamy, part energy…Eliza Marshall captivates listeners with her flute.
When you are stressed after a long day’s work the last thing you want to hear are the noisy drums bass and guitars. You want to stretch out and close your eyes and reflect about the great things that happened today. There are appropriate music for every occasion. The music of Eliza Marshall falls into this category.
She taps into the Classical, Pop and Folk styles with an ease of a blue fairy. Her years of discipline made her playing precise, crystalline and confident. I just discovered here today and I am won over by her style. More power to you Eliza!
Dave Rooney is working on a new album called Entertainer. I own two of his albums and listening to each is always a great musical experience. He is a fine musician who is rooted in the folk and Irish tradition but never losing that pop sensibility. If you like The Waterboys, Wet Wet Wet and Luka Bloom, then I don’t see why ou won’t pick up releases from this talented artist. Here’s our little conversation:
What’s the title of the new album?
The new album is called the Entertainer. I’ve folkafied and re-recorded previous tracks and written 6 new ones for this one I’m really happy with it, sounding very contemporary Irish. All the songs are woven in to the the story line, looking forward to getting on the road. What can listeners expect from this album?
It’s pretty much a life work for me. Introspective, and a big story line based on a character I met in Temple Bar.That’s where I got the idea for the musical. So a few of the songs are about him, with all the songs based on his life.
Are you working with the same guys whom you worked with in your previous album?
Same studio, Sharon Hussey fiddle player, {this is my home} new drummer, accordion player, pipe player ,double bass player,so on…I’m going back to the acoustic more contemporary out of Ireland sound
That sounds amazing! How do you maintain your amazing singing style and how to you keep being up to your toes during tours.
A lot of people ask me that, how do you find time what with a family and all.
The singing comes naturally, simply because I gig 10-12 shows a week, So I’m singing in my sleep. With regards to tours, I love traveling, gigging in different places and I think once your doing what you love it creates and energy and a zest that gives you the ability to stay on top of it.
Thank you Dave. I will be posting this little interview soon and I hope to get a preview of at least one of the songs to let it build anticipation.
As soon as I have a mastered copy, you’ll have it.
thanks a mill Baxter!!!

It is great to get updates from cool sources. It gives me all the more reason to write and update this site. Yes yes! We have a lot of wonderful music before the years ends and it is nice to have this band with us
When the Irish countryside becomes warm and sunny…it sounds exactly like The Garrett Wall Band!
GARRETT WALL BAND
SKY POINTING
Debut Cd released in US October 12th on
COSMIC TRIGGER RECORDS
Cosmic Trigger Records announces their newest release “SKY POINTING”, by the GARRETT WALL BAND (GWB). The album is the band’s US debut and was recorded live over three days at Madrid’s PKO studios. It was mixed in Nashville by David Ferguson (Rick Rubin’s engineer for the Johnny Cash albums and Jakob Dylan). The Garrett Wall Band is a wonderfully unique four-piece band, based in Madrid, comprising of members from Ireland, England and the USA, fronted by Irish singer songwriter, Garrett Wall.
This is the first CD by GWB and marks a point of departure for future recordings: the band’s highly original line-up eschews normal guidelines forming a clean and powerful acoustic concept in which each of the four members – Garrett Wall (guitar/piano/voice), Howard Brown (trumpet/voice), Robbie K. Jones (cajón – a Flamenco Drum Box) and Dave Mooney (bass/doublebass) – form a cornerstone in the foundation of the group’s sound.
The band’s lead singer and main songwriter, Garrett Wall, says of Sky Pointing: “Recording the album live over 3 days was very important to us as it reflects the core of what the group is about, playing live. Whatever we do from here on can be traced back to these first recordings and what they represent; a band comfortable with themselves on stage, where the dynamics and nuances are an ever changing and evolving thing. The great thing about Sky Pointing for me was that I got the chance to reboot songs of mine that had either never been recorded or had never gotten the right treatment. These include ‘Watching You Fall’, ‘Jealousy’, ‘Terrafirma’ and ‘All of the Above’, ‘All of the Above’ had particular meaning for me to rework it with the cajón playing of Robbie K Jones. As a result I really felt I had come full circle in my career and was starting a new with my most important musical step to date. As with ‘Force Majeure’ which is about the circular nature of things, when we fall we pick ourselves right up and keep going on. Nothing is perfect and perfection is not what we look for, more a perfect imperfection.”
Irish Music magazine Hot Press has called the band “…a supremely tight ensemble.” El Embrujo music magazine in Spain has called Sky Pointing, “…what could well be their first great work together…revitalized folk-pop, creating its own interesting universe.”
An accomplished musician, Garrett Wall is featured on the soundtrack for the Lionsgate feature film “Buried” starring Ryan Reynolds out this month at a theater near you.
Garrett sings the song over the closing credits of the film. Garrett is also very popular on Spanish television; he sings the title song for the animated series “Pocoyo” as well as having contributed material for several upcoming movies including “The Symmetry of Love”, “First Dog” and “Tea & Sangria”. Garrett has also written a commercial spot for Coca Cola that is airing in 80 markets around the world. GWB tours in Europe and after having completed three highly successful tours of Ireland, they will be in the US for on the East Coast in early 2011.
Loic the Frenchman is based on both Hamburg and Paris. His stuff is very melodic
Loic the Frenchman
and danceable. The songs are either purely instrumental or with guest vocals. These are all carefully crafted tracks that demand radio airplay.
Why celticmusicfan loves the stuff?Well if you like ambient, trance and classical music then you would find the connection in his beat ridden atmospheric compositions.Check out his site and listen to his music here:Loic Analog Digital Shift. He also has an album out which I will tackle later.
When not composting or performing, he spends most of his time traveling and skiing. He also works part time as an actor in films and television. He cites:80s pop, New Wave Depeche Mode, New Order, The Cure, Duran Duran, Alphaville, David Bowie,Chopin, Bach, Beethoven, Vivaldi as major influences.
