Fiach Moriarty In The Studio Making A New Album

New album is coming along nicely. Off to studio today to record-Fiach

This video you see is just the beginning of what’s to come. This song is from his debut album “So I”. Fiach Moriarty is busy with the new studio album-no title available yet but I will keep you updated.

A one take/no edit video.
Just to explain this video a bit; myself and Bob Kelly came up with this concept about a year ago in Hourican’s bar on Leeson St after a conversation about Samuel Beckett. We wanted to do something a bit different and challenging that would not be easily done. So we hatched a plan to learn a song backwards and from there it grew and developed. We then decided to make it a walking video and mapped out a route. The route involved getting lucky with traffic lights, cars and indeed human traffic and all in one take as well. It also involved me walking backwards throughout. So what you see is the reverse of me walking and singing backwards, which makes me look (slightly) normal and everybody else in backwards mode? Lost? Thought so, watch the video and it will become clearer.

We enlisted the help of Aoife Scott, Philip Graham, Trish Fitzpatrick, Marcus Lamb, Déaglán Mac Samhráin, Rebecca Flynn and Enda Reilly to help us achieve what you see here.
So here ya go folks, ‘Lullabye’

Fiach Moriarty, Peter Daldry and Finbar Furey fresh!

Welcome back to new music discoveries…anything Traditional, New Age, World, Folk or something in between as long as it is Celtic and eclectic works for me 😉 I got new arrivals and they are sizzling. I am sure your discriminating ears will agree that this is the site for the hip, the cool and the novel. So let us check what’s new!

I waited a year for something official coming from Fiach Moriarty. This Irish musician has something unique, special and totally captivating to offer. In the tradition of Gilbert O’Sullivan, and Chris De Burgh, Mr Moriarty can tug at your heart strings while healing your soul. Lullabye is the new official video from him.

Peter Daldry singing “Every River” by Runrig and joined by David Brewer on whistles @ the Oregon Scottish Heritage Festival in Albany, Oregon 4.9.11

I have to say this: Peter Daldry has the voice of a true balladeer. He has the type of singing that can tell you a thousand stories with just a phrase. A truly remarkable instrument-his voice.

A brilliantly talented Celtic folk artist who has been described as-
“Powerful and passionate vocals , delivered in a celtic folk contemporary style.
Whether singing a heartfelt Dougie Maclean ballad or a rousing Scottish battle song,
Peter Daldry’s vocals draw the listeners in with a conviction rarely heard these days.”

This spring sees the new release “Under A Leaden Sky” for Peter, who has teamed up with long time friend and fellow artist, David Brewer (Molly’s Revenge).  In anticipation of the new CD, Peter is available for interview by phone, Skype, or email.  We invite you to do a feature story and can supply you will all notable material, mp3’s, and information.
Please contact me for arrangements, and thank you for your support of Celtic music!

Press Release from Daly Communications:

FINBAR FUREY to appear at Joe’s Pub May 29th

Only NYC Show 7:30pm

Legendary Irish folk icon, FINBAR FUREY will return to Joe’s Pub on Tuesday May 29th.  His last show there was in March of 2009 where he played to a sold out crowd.

Finbar Furey, has been making his mark on the music of Ireland and the World  for more than four decades. As the lead singer and uillean pipes player for The Fureys, a group he shared with his brothers Eddie, Paul and George, Finbar helped revitalize Ireland’s traditional music scene. Since leaving the band to pursue a solo career in 1993, Finbar has continued to attract attention with his gutsy approach to the music of the Emerald Isle.

Finbar has been well respected for his earthy voice and multiple instrument playing including the banjo, guitar and the tin whistle.  As one of the finest uilleann pipe players in the world, he pushed the instrument of his Irish roots into the sphere of contemporary music. His influence can be heard throughout recent years’ popular music from Riverdance to Black 47. Early in his career, Finbar had a stint as the lead singer of the groundbreaking band The Clancy Brothers.

Outside of his songwriting and performing, Finbar has had success as an actor appearing in films including Martin Scorsese’s Gangs of New York. He recently appeared in the films Paris/Sexyand Strength and Honour as well as the RTÉ Television series Love/Hate.

FInbar will be performing some of your old favorite along with some new tunes from his latest release, ‘Colours’. This is his only NYC and you don’t want to miss it.

Introducing Declan de Barra

Declan de Barra is an indie Irish singer of somber beauty. Check this song out.

…..and i know i’m far away,
but i know i’ll be back soon someday,
so hold on to all that you left,
don’t let the memories fade to the depths…
i wont leave you on your own
someday soon i’ll be on your shore…

Nice Fusion.

I found this artist and I got hooked. Her voice is really lush. If you combine Soul, RnB, Folk , Irish and a little bit of Bluegrass then you get Verlette Simon.

Kilrush, John Byrne and Ouch!

Ouch! This headache gets in the way. I am past the age of rock and roll.  But sometimes I have this fantasy of waking up and asking hey where’s my other shoe. There’s also a part of me who is a frustrated DJ.

There’s this local radio station I frequented  a lot. The manager was aware that I was into Celtic music. So apart from bands like The Calling, Lifehouse, Snow Patrol and Keane, they wanted to add something different. Most of the time, people hear Tori Amos, Nine Inch Nails and  Emo bands. Then they started hearing a bit of Loreena McKennitt, Clannad, Brigid Boden, and Altan. Soon friends started approaching me saying, were those your CDs? I’d start laughing. I love the idea of influencing people. It is fun.

My music calendar told me that  the band Kilrush will play  this Saturday, January 21. Let me give you a sample of how they sound like if ever you decide to go. It is fun to have a little craic after a long week of work work work work!

John Byrne made a wonderful collaboration with Fiach Moriarty last Christmas and that got him to the radar. But this guy has made countless followers already. I love his ballads. And what’s an acoustic band without a wonderful cello or fiddle player?
