I am working on an article about the recording process. It will be focusing on the mixing and mastering side. While I am at it, I want to distract you all with this video by Tim Chaisson. He used to be the youngest member of the Celtic/contemporary band Kindle with his two brothers and three cousins as their bassist. Now his band is simply known as Tim Chaisson & Morning Fold. Thanks to my friend Jimmy for bringing him up during one of our conversations about musicians based in the east coast of Canada.
I was trying to think very hard if Flutatious belongs here or in my other blog devoted to Indie folk/rock/dance-general music. After listening again and again, I decide to post it here for several reasons:
1. It is so pleasant to hear that it really fits here.
2. I know a lot of people who follow this blog have eclectic tastes.
3. They have this folk side with electronic frills.
With all these things said, I will now let you hear Flutatious. I got hooked after 2 songs. Think what this UK-based band will do with an entire album 🙂
Band member Ben Forwell recommended this link below. I think the video describes what the band’s music is about.
FLUTATIOUS came together after an inspiring trip to the Isle of Skye. The scenery and relaxed vibe inspired Michelle, Bill, Andy and Stella to put a new band together.
Michelle, Stella, Andy, Bill, William and the Colonel in Skye.
Malcolm came in on drums and then the band met the talented Mr Williams and were immediately knocked out with his jazzy vibes. 2008 saw the band finish their self-produced first album which has been selling out at every gig and was named as ‘demo of the week’ on Celtic Music Radio as well as receiving countless plays here and abroad on internet stations.
The band also had the pleasure of playing Small World, Eden, Cornbury, Hawkfest, Solfest and Weyfest and are playing to ever increasing audiences in their native northwest London.
His new trio Ghost Head Revival, combines traditional elements with adult alternative freshness. Karl has collaborated with many musicians in the Irish music scene. He is part of Tremolo and the band is very active these days.
This video will tell you that these guys have something fresh to offer in the music scene.
Ghosthead Revival (James Gornall/Clint Fitzgerald/Karl Nesbitt) are an eclectic acoustic trio – blending songwriting, instrumental and world music. Dynamic, sensitive and powerful, the trio is committed to reviving the more “Grass roots” techniques of recording, arrangement and performance. With up to seven different instruments between them, and many more influences, Ghosthead Revival are an exciting new act combining originals and re-invented covers.
Keltiac might be the next exciting thing after Afro Celt Sound System…or so much more? You be the judge.
After listening to the sample tracks of Chris Dawson’s project band Keltiac, I am convinced that buying the CD Out on the Edge is a good idea. If mp3 files can make you feel the extravagant sounds, think about what the richness of the CD recording is capable of doing. All the elements work together. The tracks sound like they have been rehearsed a hundred times before being recorded. The sound quality is excellent. The production bends towards slickness, yet every strand of sound seems wispy with detail.
Out on the Edge-radio edit is a testament to those excellent arrangements and production techniques. Most of the tracks like Dragon’s Breath and Road to Coimbra are winners. The band is approaching the territory of world music yet never losing their Irish and Scottish folk roots. I recommend Keltiac to listeners who love bands like Kila, Afro Celts Sound System and Dead Can Dance.
Blue Highwayare a Bluegrass band characterized by slick and tight musicianship. The members are from Tennessee.
Thumbs up to tracks: Two Soldiers, Wondrous Love and the a capella Someday.
You need to hear them in big speakers to get the total feel of the music. I see that this band is known all over the world based on the press releases. You can’t blame them. After 10 albums, they have established themselves as stalwarts in the field of Bluegrass. The effort they put in every tracks make them a cut above the rest. The catchy tunes make the band accessible to mainstream listeners. Blue Highway is a band for people with impeccable taste in music.
