Gifts and New Album

While there are events in our lives that ebb and flow, we are like willows bending and enduring whatever life hands us. But in that space between two  hills we are blessed by the calm that comes when we behold something beautiful. Be it the sunset or waking up to a fantastic song, the fact is, magic happens. So yes sh*t happens and so is the realization that everything is going to be ok. If we just hold on maybe the next day or week is going to be different.

Finally the new album by Kyle Carey is out!

Finally the new album by Kyle Carey is out!

So what’s new? Kyle Carey has new album out! Yes we’ve waited since last year as she wrote that the said album was going to be recorded during the Celtic Connections in Scotland. She posted pictures from these sessions via Instagram and in her facebook page. Now it is out! I will listen to it and then write a review.

Congratulations to Sarah Frank and Luke Fraser of The Bombadils for finally tying a knot. I knew this was coming. This two will create beautiful music together so I am sure I will be writing about the Bombadils soon, There are many things out there really worth blogging about. And yes check out the picture below. Those are gifts from my English friend Paula. She and Gilly went to Dublin to meet Ian for a photoshoot. You will read more about it in my other blog.

I am also posting a video from Kyle Carey. Thanks to Dave Hallowell for posting this beautiful live performance. You will hear this song in the new album by the same title.

I am hungry for new materials. I am excited for something new. But for now, this is going to be a blog post below 500 words. Just let it out in small doses. We don’t want to choke on too much info. For now.

Sorry for the long absence

To my friends, it’s been a while since my last post as there were personal matters I had to resolve. But the music continues and I shall soon have updates. I have been working on another tech blog and I was shocked to learn it posted automatically to the facebook page. Sorry if that caused a confusion but I will have everything sorted out soon. I have been blogging for a great site called 67 Music and I hope you support my endeavors over there as we are all family. I will talk to you soon! Xx

Gwennyn: Silky Breton Music

For Gwennyn, the adventure began in 2000 when she took her first steps in music with Alan Stivell on his album “Back to Breizh“, then got invited to festivals of Old plows Carhaix and Fallen of the night in Rennes .-Artist bio.

Somewhere in Brittany, a very stylish Celtic singer Gwennyn continues to hone her artistry. There is this balance between ambient and folk rock style. The   maritime and urban appeal of her music makes her accessible to both the older and younger demographics. Her voice is like the whisper of seashells over sand dunes. The sloshing of her olive flavored melodies washes over like the frothy tides against tired feet. Something I need after a long day.

After five songs and several videos she won me over. It’s like nothing  could ever go wrong  when I listen to her songs. They are filled with sweetness and radiance. To top it off, her charismatic personality makes her a sorceress that drives her audience to aural frenzy.

The new album is called Kan An Tevenn

In a pop rock style Celtic Gwennyn takes us on an imaginary journey to the peoples of the dunes … Buoyed by the artistic direction of Patrice Marzin, this album offers a sublime setting for voice and clear air Gwennyn, where new music, beautiful melodies and contributions of famous French-speaking authors like Gerard Manset, are heavily loaded. It rocks!
With:
Patrice Marzin: guitars (HF Thiéfaine, Calvin Russell, Gerard Manset)
Kevin Camus: uilleann pipes (piper of N. Le Roy)
Jean-Luc Aime: Programming (Elisa Vellia, Stabat Stable)
Patrick Boileau battery (G. Servat)

Ashley MacIsaac, Sonic Impulse Etc

Another weekend has come after the wild partying during St. Patrick’s. Beautiful guys and gals around the world donned their greens. And I am green(with envy) but happy that Celticism is everywhere. Yes it is a way of life, it is a culture and just something you would like to keep yourself busy with after listening to too much war, insipid pop culture and same ol’ same ol’ stuff . Hey what do you know, I got news for you. Yes reliable sources are all around.

There are people who just don’t like coffee. They’d rather have tea. There are those who love tea only when it has milk on it. Then there are those who love both. This also happens in music. Bagpipes are really for bagpipe fanatics. And then there are those who tamper with modern technology, add a little bit of groove , pop sensibility and the mix is ready to keep the crowd going regardless of musical preferences. Young people love to dance. Mature people like me love music with something special on it. Sonic Impulse have both. What they need is a huge amount of promotion, word of the mouth enthusiasm and then we leave the rest to the audience.

Sonic Impulse is an Electronic/Celtic/Rock group based in Hollywood California. The band members are:

BLAKE PULLEN – Vocals, Bagpipes, Samplers

KELBY THWAITS – Guitar, Keys, Vocals

JON MCCRACKEN – Drums

FRANK RICHARDS – Bass

ERIC BOYD – Bagpipes, Keys

Buy the album “PIPE DREAMS” now on CDBaby. The band is currently working on a new album.

Flashback to 1963. English folk singer Anne Briggs recorded this traditional tune without accompaniment. There are a lot of lyrical variations to this piece. I had to do some editing because her’s is also different from what is known to most of us. More references here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/She_Moved_Through_the_Fair

My young love said to me,
My mother won’t mind
And my father won’t slight you
For your lack of kind.
Then she laid her hand on me
And this she did say:
Oh,it will not be long, love,
Till our wedding day.
She laid her hand on me
And she moved through the fair
And fondly I watched her
Move here and move there.
Then she laid her hand to me,
And this she did say,
Oh, it will not be long love
Till our wedding day.
Last night she came to me,
My dead love came in.
And,so softly she came
That her feet made no din.
And she laid her hand on me,
And this she did say:
Oh…It will not be long, love,
‘Til our wedding day.

Grace O’Malley

Grace2 Grace O’Malley (Gráinne Mhao) was a female Irish pirate who still enchants our imaginations. Frankly I didn’t know her until the book Island of the White Cow fell on my hands. It recounts the experience of an American poet from the Midwest who settled in an unmodernized island off the west coast of Ireland. The Pirate queen was given a huge reference in that book .

In her old age O’Malley was given pardon. She met Elizabeth I at Kentwell and as history puts it, they conversed in Latin-their only common language. They apparently built a rapport which was inevitable; being two strong women with great minds. I will let this video do the talking.
