She was the voice describe by Judy Collins as ‘like golden silver’. I ‘discovered’ her music late. I think it was Mary Fahl the former singer of October Project who cite her as a primary vocal influence. Beautiful voices are hard to find these days unless you are into Celtic music. Most of the time, those who get mainstream recognition are singers that have either ugly voices but with good looks or just those that can’t carry a tune but have to rely on auto tune. Bring the beautiful voices back!

My plan of going out this afternoon has been hampered by heavy rain. Outside the streets are close to flooding. I am writing this on the porch enjoying the scenery and listening to the track by The paper Boys called Rain on Me. I first saw this band on a New Years day in the late 2000 when all Celtic bands all over the world staged their concerts the celebrate the coming of the new millennium. Like The Great Big Sea, they bring something melodic with influences across genres and cultures. They are working on a new material. So far no official news about a new album has been posted in their official site but a concert on July 4th, 2012, at the Tsillan Cellars in Chelan, WA has been confirmed.
For years, Canadian artist Oona McOuat has been involved with amazing projects. To quote from her website bio:
From 1991 to 2005, she wintered on the Big Island of Hawaii, swimming and singing with wild dolphins and whales and exploring sound to new depths. She developed a music program based on singing and playing from the inside out, and became an inspiring and dedicated teacher, expanding her work to include story, the mythic realms and environmental awareness and stewardship.
She is one of those artists who gave me a break when I was starting this website. I still love listening to Honey and Holy Water. There is that timeless appeal embedded in the album. I subscribed to her newsletter so I get updates once in a while. Oona is such an intriguing artists and her kindness shines through her songs. Wow. I mean wow look at how artfully created this video is. Seeing someone sing so flawlessly while keeping the pizzicato rhythm of her violin is not what you usually see even among traditional singers. This is just the initial indication what Inni-K is capable of achieving in her forthcoming album this year.
This native of Co. Kildare, who now lives in An Daingean, Co. Kerry has worked with musicians such as Luka Bloom, Liam Ó Maonlaí and many more. Her listeners range from indie supporters to Celtic music fanatics. She has a beautiful voice-both a combination of strength and vulnerability. I will certainly watch out for her upcoming projects from now on.
Kitus are a French group based in Lyon France composed of Yannick Guyader (diatonic accordion), Sylvain Vuidart (flute, wood and metal), Luke Roche (violin) and Fabien Guiloineau (acoustic guitar, bouzouki). They play a brand of jazz influenced Celtic music combined with waltzes, mazurkas and even Latin rhythms. The album called “Après l’After” was released in 2009. One of their notable performances was in Gannat Cabaret Festival in 2011.
