The Green Linnet Legacy

Green_Linnet_Logo

I learned about Green Linnet through CD Review magazine in 1991 (Oh boy aren’t I old ?) I love the catalog and the bands featured. That’s where I also discovered Capercaillie,Andy Irvine and Altan.

Green Linnet was an American record label founded in 1973 by Lisa Null and Patrick Sky. It was the taking over of Wendy Newton when it eventually turned to Green Linnet. It’s the most popular label to exclusively release records on the Celtic genre.

Controversy about unpaid royalties eventually turned the label being sued. Thus it was later sold to Compass records. Before downloadable albums and digital music,  people turned to Green Linnet to see what’s hot and new in Celtic music.

Sharon Corr’s Solo Career and Website

sharon-image As we all know folks,  Andrea Corr is not the only one having fun.  Her sister Sharon Corr,  has embarked on a solo career and she has her own website.

You can check out videos of her studio sessions and interviews. Sharon has always been the most laid back of the sisters. But she’s also the prettiest.

Good luck Sharon. With your new album out, talent and sweetness,  I am sure you will gain legions of fans.

Loreena McKennitt Tour Rescheduled Updates!

Due to a recent family emergency,Loreena McKennitt has rescheduled her Mediterranean tour.

According to Qnlan Road, her own record label:

Loreena McKennitt’s Greek concerts rescheduled to close Mediterranean tour

June 8, 2009

Loreena McKennitt’s three concerts in Greece have been rescheduled, the singer announced today.  The tour, which was to have begun in Fez Morocco, will now open in Turkey, with a major concert in Istanbul on Saturday June 13 — and the Greek concerts will come at the end of the tour.

The rescheduled Greek dates are now June 27 at the Ancient Odeum at Patra, June 28 at Moni Lazariston in Thessaloniki, and June 29 at Theatro Vrachon in Athens.

Concertgoers do not need to exchange their tickets; tickets for the original dates will be honoured. Tickets are still available for the three concerts, and will return for sale on Tuesday, June 9.

Ms. McKennitt’s long awaited Mediterranean tour has been complicated by the illness of her mother, which caused the cancellation of a performance at the Festival of World Sacred Music in Fez Morocco.

“I am relieved that my mother’s health issues are stabilized, and look forward to embarking on this tour. I so look forward to meeting audiences in Turkey, Cyprus, Lebanon, Hungary, Sicily and Greece,” she stated.

As a result of the Fez cancellation and original Greek postponements, regrettably, Loreena’s appearance in Tel Aviv on June 18th will be rescheduled at the request of the local promoter.
