Mary Fahl’s The Other Side of Time

I am down with a mild flu. I am in and out of bed getting water and playing my music on minimum volume. Been listenign to The Other Side of Time by Mary Fahl. I like this album in a sense that it is a fusion of different genres of music. You find Celtic, Jazz, Cinematic  and even a bit of Classic Rock .

Mary’s rich contralto is embelished by slick instrumental performance of each contributing guests. It is a departure form the Gothic drama of  October Project but it doesn’t fail to find new audience. This is a kind of album that gets sold at a slow pace but finds a build up of  loyal followers.

The Death of Physical Media?

With the popularity of downloads, it is hard for collectors to get the physical media. And I am not just talking about vinyl records and cassette tapes. I am also talking about b-sides released on CD format. This is what happened to Enya’s My!My! Time Flies. Fans anticipated another physical release and what we get is just the MP3 version. I just hope that people would once again help get physical media back. Ipods  make  music collection all the more illusive. I want to smell enlay cards, record sleeves and printed album covers!

Celtic Music of Brittany

Now that we have explored Brittany, let us look into the type of Celtic music and dance from that place. Link1 , link2

Now remember that Breton language is another Celtic branch of language just like Irish and Welsh. Look further here for more information.

Here’s Denez Prigent who is Brittany’s own pride in Breton Celtic music revival. Woooah! I feel like dancing.

And here’s his duet with Australian singer/composer and the other half of Dead Can Dance Lisa Gerard. This is  taken from the movie Black Hawk Down.

The Welsh Triple Harp

large_triple1

Wow talk about a bunch of strings! This instrument is not your typical Celtic harp because:

The Welsh triple harp (telyn deires) is a type of harp using three rows of strings instead of the common single row. The Welsh triple harp today is found mainly among players of traditional Welsh folk music.

The sound is beautiful as any Harp sound can get. It has a deeper quality than most Celtic harps because of its bigger size.

For a harp maker’s site you can find it here
