Never Mind the Bocs
If you are travelling to the Isle of Man this July then something awaits you.Yn Chruinnaght (meaning ‘the gathering’) has been held in its original form in 1924. Manx is another Celtic language just like Welsh and Gaelic and it is spoken widely in this island. Since this is to celebrate the Isle of Man’s relationship to the rest of the Seven Celtic Nations then we will be expecting visiting artists . The Isles of Man has its own unique tradition. While still being Celtic, its music, language and art are different from the rest . That is why this gathering is one of a kind because this will showcase the brand of music from that island which is really beautiful.
Thanks for including a write-up on Yn Chruinnaght. Just to clarify, the festival in its current Inter-Celtic format has only been held since 1978, although it was revived the year earlier and known as Feailley Vanninagh Rhumsaa. The festival does have links to Yn Cruinnaght Vanninagh Ashoonagh, which was started in 1924, but the format of the festival now is completely different.
You might also be interested to know that Yn Chruinnaght has recently released a CD, called ‘The Gathering’ that features artists from the 6 Celtic nations that have performed at our festival.

If you would be interested in doing a review of it then send your address to my email, and I’ll post you out a copy.
There’s loads of music going on in the Island at the minute, and it’s all very exciting!
The Manx Heritage Foundation are also doing a fantastic job in publishing books and CDs on Manx music: there are 2 books – Kiaull yn Theay 3 and 4, ed. by Breesha Maddrell, that are full of new compositions by Manx musicians. I’ve also just finished a Manx fiddle tutor for the foundation, which is being used to teach kids fiddle in all the schools on the Island.
